But it's got to the stage where it's time for me to make some things for myself (and by that I really mean my home & my family). - I know this because I've had a number of guests visit in the last couple of weeks who have gone around my house asking me if I've made this and that. It gets a bit embarrassing after about the 3rd "no actually I got sent that from someone in America in a swap"... and trying to explain to them why I have all these cool things made by other people that I've never met, but none I've made for myself.
- They tend to get a very perplexed, "you are one weird mumma" look on their face! LOL...
As well as that the things that are around that I have made (with the exception of a tiny few things) are usually the rejects, or the first things I ever made, which I would rather hide than show off as "my work". You know what I mean?! I'm sure we must all have some of those?
So please can I have your help lovely friends!
I need some inspiration...
I have decided make myself a lap quilt & 4 cushions to go with the colours of my lounge room, so I have pulled a bunch of my favourite designers & fabrics to put together in a combo which would complement the room:

| That's one of my couch cushions on the right hand side - and my curtains are a greeny/goldy beige - is that a colour. Goodness I suck at this HAHA! |
Green & Pink/Purple (ok what is that colour called LOL... -I guess it has some maroon & some grape & some cherry & some pink)...
BUT...
I have no idea what to do with them all! I'm keen to have 4 different cushion designs, all in this colour way, that complement each other but don't "match" if you know what I mean. They need to be rectangular rather than square because I'm going to fit the covers over the existing cushions.
I'm also really keen to have a very scrappy patterned quilt design. It's my month in August for Bits & Pieces bee so I'm thinking that I'll probably get the girls to help me with a quilt & give them this photo for colour guidance. But I need a block to give them.
Any idea for either project?
I love you all so much in advance!
A lot of these are charm squares so any links to charmsquare-friendly patterns that you love would be so much appreciated too! I've never really worked with precuts before - but I have acquired a bunch of them recently in swaps & really need to know what to do with them (other than piece the squares together as the are obviously...)
Does anyone else have any trouble designing stuff for themselves or am I the only one challenged in this field? I wonder why I have so much trouble!
Thanks heaps!

Hi... have you thought about a ''double nine patch" as that uses a lot of charm squares xxx
You could do disappearing nine patches so that they all looked similar - with the colours and all - but different because you are using all different fabrics. Or you could do what I did. Make tons of HSTs and then play with them in different layouts. There are tons of things you could do!
Hey Kat... I just put these placemats in my faves last night and I think they would work great for you... each one is different but complementary

I am so not the girl to offer you any help with this...especially since it took me over an hour to choose fabrics for my first quilt.
I know that whatever you come up with will look amazing.
Happy sewing.
xx
I LOVE that picture of fabrics!! What an awesome combination of patterns and colours!! You already know this but Flickr is awesome for inspiration, and the Moda Bakehouse will have recipes for charm squares.
