Tuesday Tidbits...

**  Is it really Tuesday again today?! I'm struggling to remember where the weekend & Monday went this week!

**  Neil goes back away to work tomorrow...

**  But the good news is that he is only going until Sunday - probably the shortest stint EVER Woo hoo!!

**  I lost my sewing Mojo at the end of last week.

**  It just got up and left one day...

**  Last night I decided to get back on the horse & do some, but I still feel like I'm a little off my game!...

**  I started with my September bee blocks for my new bee - "Sew Aussie".

I was SO extremely nervous to make these & I'm still SO extremely nervous to find out if Jules likes them or not. (It is the first time I've ever made bee blocks with someone else's fabric before, they are also not colours I usually use (or have any of if I stuffed up), and we also didn't have an exact visual on what she was wanting, and I'm a visual person.) Anyway no going back now so I really hope she does like them eek...

Sew Aussie September blocks

**  Since I may have slightly over committed for the next month (are you surprised to hear this... no, I didn't think so!) I decided to try and get a few things checked off straight away. So I made my first mug rug & "goodie" for the Goodie swap I told you about yesterday...

Goodies for Partner A...
Little zipper pouch & my first ever mug rug...

**  I'm not a lover of binding at the best of times, let alone when I'm not in the mood to sew & it's something itty bitty & fiddly, so I followed this tutorial by Linda which provides a really cool way to do it without the need for binding. It worked really well and saved a lot of binding grief!
This is the back...

Possible Mug Rug 1 back

**  Unfortunately I decided to try doing my pouch without zipper tabs this time because my zip was a bit long for the pouch size I wanted.

**  Bad idea! It looks so horrible in comparison to one with tabs and I could just cry. (Because I sewed one zip end crooked)

**  In my wisdom I decided to sew a handle on to hide the yucky bit at the end of the zipper.

**  Enter my needle hitting one of the metal bits of the zipper in the process & the safety lock of my machine coming on.

Pouch for Goodie Swap

**  It therefore did not sew on well and probably looks worse than it did to begin with. I almost cried again!...

**  Next time I will just google how to shorten a zip or make the pouch a bit bigger!

**  The pouch has it's own merits though so I'm going to suck it up and send it.

**  I think.

**  The best time to decide that is not today and in a few days when I have made peace with the stoopid pouch lol...

** Hopefully my mojo will come back soon - I really have a lot to do in the next few weeks and I also really wish to enjoy doing it!!

Happy Tuesday.

As usual I am linking up today with Fabric Tuesday

Amen to your comment on binding. I pretty much have a hate-hate relationship with it! The mug rug has turned out great and I am going to check out Linda's page. Thanks!

Ok, first...I think your bee blocks look awesome. Second, your Goodie Swap items are great, too. Very cute! I would love to get that pouch, so try not to stress too much! Also, shortening zippers is really easy, at least the way I've read. You just whipstitch tightly around the spot you want it to end and snip off the excess. If you bought your zip in a package it sometimes says on the back. I've never had problems doing it that way.

Hi, I'm a member of your Goodie Swap group and if you got me in the draw I'd be happy with that pouch. Relax and take a deep breath. Feel better? Good.

I also love the rug. Don't know which side I'd use it would be like getting a 2 for.

Have a great day.

I saw your blocks on Flickr yesterday and thought they were adorable. I have no idea if that's how they're "supposed to" look, but I think they are super adorable in their own right!

Also, shortening a zip is SUPER easy - so much so that I almost always opt for a longer zipper than I think I need, just in case. Essentially... you just cut it shorter (making sure the zipper pull doesn't fall off of course). I really didn't believe that could work the first time someone told me, but it really is that simple!

I hope your sewing mojo comes back in full force pretty soon!

Oh, you're too hard on yourself, Kat. What you made is absolutely beautiful and your partner will LOVE it. I am completely sure.

I appreciate you admitting your mistakes. As a new crafter/sewer, I often make MULTIPLE mistakes even after reading a pattern twice. I have recently made some really cute zipper pouches too. My first one, though, I ran into the same problem as you did with the zipper.. Very frustrating (and still sitting near my sewing table to be redone!)

I think your pouch looks beautiful as well as your mug rug! I have yet to try those!

Nice job!

I like all of your 'stuff' today - as usual. :D You did MUCH better on your first mug rug than I did on mine, that's for SURE! lol

Don't forget - be NICE to yourSELF!

That mug rug looks fantastic. You did yours the way I do mine. Bugger binding something that small!

I think you should send the zipper pouch anyway. It still looks fabulous , you made it from the heart , and hand made isnt about perfect!
