Tuesday Tidbits...

**  Wow thanks everyone for your encouragement and entries for my 200 follower milestone giveaway!!

**  I was planning on replying to everybody, but so many people have entered now that I don't know if I have the time. Know that I read & appreciated every one though! (And I'll see what I can do - but I make no promises).

**  If you are one of my "posse" but haven't entered then make sure you do - you've got til Friday.

**  I had the best mail day ever today! Parcels almost never arrive all at once, but today they did. I think I had 5 arrive - a mixture of purchases & swaps. Oh yeah!
So some of that new loveliness will make it to my giveaway!!

**  I'm not going to show them all to you because that could get boring (or more just make you hate me ;) ) but let me show you one that I got totally unexpectedly from Jeannie (aka Lv2Create over on Flickr)...

**  Jeannie and I have been in loads of swaps together on Flickr, but up until recently we hadn't communicated with each other as such - I just was a distant admirer of her work.
- She makes totally awesome bags & pouches!! (Including a lovely version of my scrappy pouch tutorial too I have to say).

**  Anyway when Jeannie signed up to my scrappy swap and posted a photo of her scraps in the photo pool I liked one so much that I asked her if she'd be interested in doing a swap for some. Jeannie is so generous that she offered to just send it to me without swapping. How nice is that!
But look what turned up - a little more than just the yellow scrap!!

Whole package from Jeannie
Sorry in advance to her partner because I think this might have been all she had of the yellow, so hopefully it wasn't your favourite too....

Isn't that pouch SO cool? And she also sent me a fat quarter of USA only release DS fabric, but it's the pouch that has my heart swooning. -Check out the back...

reverse side of pouch from Jeannie

A butterfly stamp and it says "Friends are the chocolate chips in the cookies of life" - how sweet is that?! (No pun intended)

**  So that made my day - most especially because it was so unexpected!!
{ I'd even totally forgotten she was sending me the scrap and thought when I read the customs form before I'd opened it that she must have been given me as a partner in the Pretty Little Purse Swap LOL...}

**  On a more glum note with the mail - I ordered a fat quarter set of delicious Henna fabric off Etsy a few weeks ago and that was one of the packages to arrive today.

Mmmmm my new bundle of Henna!

**  Yummy aren't they? These are all from different fabric lines, are mostly out of print, and it's not very common to find a pack of them all together. I've admired them for a long time so just couldn't resist when I found a whole bundle of them together!

**  They are also all for me for a change! I plan to make myself a nice quilt with them (one day!) and will not be parting with it for anything!

**  Only very sadly the package did not arrive without some war wounds courtesy of the American postal service boooo hooooo..... Check out what the packaging looked like when it arrived -

DOH!

**  Never a good sign right!? First time this has every happened to me!!

**  All of them have grease on the selvedges from (I assume) getting stuck in one of the mail machines or something, but only one is really ruined - the light pink one. This is one of the spots of grease - and of course it all had to happen right in the MIDDLE of the fat quarter, pretty much rendering the whole thing useless.

The munched up middle of my Fat quarter

**  I'm hoping all the grease will come out but I'm not holding my breath. Anyone got any suggestions?

**  Lets just say it was a very good lesson in why we need to send fabric well bagged & protected!!

**  And yes, I could have cried!

***

**  My girls are both having a sleep today - I am enjoying the rare treat of afternoon serenity!!

**  I met a lovely bunch of girls for a quilting tutorial last night. Wanna see what I was mean enough to set them as their learning activity?

Demo mug rug for Quilt class 101
(Obviously not beginner sewers though, just beginner quilters...)

**  And this was my demo one from last night to show what a difference colour choice can make to the look of a block...

Mug rug made during my piecing demo in Quilt class 101 last night
Obviously not finished yet...

**  Mean piecing though huh... especially as one of them choose some fabric which wasn't quite big enough for the size I set and decided to down size hers to make it fit.

**  As a result her half square triangles ended up at 1.5 inches finished, oh my!!!
- Ambitious for a first attempt at quilting huh! To her credit though she pulled it off and it looked great! (as did they all!)

**  After arriving home at 11pm (usually classes are at my house & I don't need to travel) and having Hannah wake me up twice last night, I'm a little exhausted today.

**  But I am determined to think of some ideas for my Christmas Table Runner Swap and make a start soon. That, & quilting a couple of Blankets of Love quilts are next on the list.

**  Oh, and then there's sewing for this weekends Market. Hmmm... we'll see...

**  Ok I better go see what Abbie's up to. She just woke up & made her way outside. I can hear her playing with the dogs biscuits. Yummy!

Oh no! I would be devestated if any of my fabrics arrived like that! I hope you can use some of it... BTW, if the market you are talking about is my market, its not till next weekend hehehe 29th love :-)

Ouch and with fabric so expensive that is a costly purchase - just hope you love the rest enough to have made it worth while! Poor you I think I would have cried!

Great mugrugs! Love the russian doll!

Five postal packets in one day! I'd be jealous if I didn't think you deserved it. Too bad about that fq though. I am sure that a grease stain remover will get out the stains but nothing can fix ripping. How disappointing.

I am going to try and be motivated today after yesterday's less than stellar preformance. Off to see what needs doing.

If Abbie likes dog biscuits doesn't that mean you could save a fortune on food?

Lucky you to have received all that yummy mail at one, but boo to the grease stain!!

I am totally swooning over that pouch too and I love the fabric that arrived with it :)

Enjoy the rest of your week, sounds like you'll be rather busy.

So much loveliness! That henna range is beautiful - I'd never come across it. So sad that it got a little bit ruined. Fingers crossed the stain comes out in the wash.

I've had a couple of parcels from the States turn up a bit the worse for wear but not as bad as yours. Bummer.
Love the pouch and the yellow fabric is very very nice, I can understand why you had your eyes on it.

Congrats on the wonderful surprise package from Jeannie-- lucky you!! That little pouch is so sweet! So sorry about the other damaged package-- definitely a good warning to be careful about sending fabric in the mail. I love the project for your class-- it is really amazing how vastly different it can turn out based on fabric choices! You have so many quilty things going on-- I amazed at how you manage it all!!

Love the pouch...love the fabrics...When my kiddo gets grease on his clothing I treat (really soak ) it with hydrogen peroxide, wash it (alone) and if it hasn't fully come out treat it again. Usually after 2 washings you can't tell where the grease was. Hope it helps!

Deanna said...

That kinda sucks about the fabric getting greased. As others have suggested, I have heard that hydrogen peroxide works well to get grease out.

Nice to get such great mail though! I love it when that happens, though I have never had 5 at once.

OMG, and those poor beautiful fabrics! Hope the oil comes out.

Oh no -your poor fabric!I almost bought that fabric myself recently from Sandi's shop but restrained myself at the last minute!

I saw that pouch and commented on how cute it was...and now it's turned up at your house. It's gorgeous!

Oh man, boo to bad mail services! I think the problem is that those priority mail envelopes are not designed to be stuffed full of things, I think I've only ever had one arrive entirely whole, and it had been completely coated in tape...

Great piecing job by your friends, wow!

5 squishies in ONE DAY!!! Amazing!
I got ONE on Saturday - with 3 scrap packs from Hawthorne Threads. :D A nice 'prize' for making it thru' my first time solo teaching a workshop. :D

Bummer that the package got stuck in a machine. :~( My sister used to get a laundry product in Oz that worked great on stains - I'm pretty sure it was made for washing nappies, but I don't remember the name of it. Maybe something like that would work. Or use some of your regular dish washing liquid - it is made to remove grease, right? Good luck!

What rotten luck with the greasy fabric! Can you claim anything back? Love the confidence you have in your students! They obviously rose to the challenge! It's good to be stretched once in a while. Jxo

1) Jeannie is pretty darn amazing... agreed!

2) Were you the Australian who was negotiating buying a Henna Garden FQ stack of an Etsy person about 2 months ago? I bought them from someone who was waiting for an Aussie to get back to her (I know I know... Kiwi, but Aussie by locale lol)

3) Let me check when I get home tonight... I may have an extra FQ of the light pink... if I do I can send it to you...

Hi Kat, you had really wonderful day! That present pouch is so beautiful and I love stamps and writings! Also all the fabrics for your own quilt are just adorable and so good together! How awful that the packet came like that - only I was thinking what we have said about scraps, no fabric piece is useless and I guess you just have to make a block with small pieces to avoid the ruined part. I hope you can clean the grease.

Don't worry about the yellow as that was not what my partner was looking at :)
I am so sorry about your package. I think that should have been in a box.
Hope you can find a replacement!
