WIP Wednesday that wasn't....

Today I was supposed to update you on my WIPs...
Well actually - last week I was supposed to update you on my WIPs... then I got busy and put it off for a week, then today my computer decided to up and pack a sad and die
 - big big sad face!!!!!!!!!!!

So no WIP Wednesday post again this week. Which kind of sucks since for a chance I have actually made great progress on two of my projects!
Ok well if we're being honest then other people have made great progress on my projects for me - but it still counts if I coordinate it doesn't it? I think so? Yes, lets go with it still counts!

Ahem... so yes I bought a new computer today.
- Because I took mine to the shop and they told me that there would be a 5 day delay before they could even take a look at it.
Ummmmm let me think about that... no! This girl cannot go 5 days without a computer! Especially when this girl has 3 big invoices to send out asap to get paid which she needs her computer for - and is also right in the middle of assigning swap partners for my swap. As well as all the other stuff I need to do for home & work on a daily basis.

A new machine has been on the cards for a while but we were hoping to put it off until next year. But oh well, sometimes these things cannot be helped. Amazing how reliant we are on them these days!!

So anyway, hopefully I will be back up and running properly in a few days. We are just trying to recover my old files and transfer them to the new machine etc... ack what a drama that I could have done without!!

Sorry everyone who has sent me cheeky blocks which I haven't shown off yet. I promise I will as soon as I can!!

Take care

Tuesday Tidbits & Giveaway Winner...

**  Did you know that pigs can actually fly?...

abbie flying this morning at toddler jam...

**  That is my cutie at toddler jam this morning. Last session of the term and we had a very fun morning!

**  In breaking news I have finally made a decision as to what my lovely Sew Aussie ladies will be making me in October. So far I have cut up most of the fabric...

Fabric cutting in process...

**  To be made into these:

Trial block for Sew Aussie

**  Just the solids to cut then they can all be packaged up to send...

**  These are completely not my "go to" colours, but despite that I am absolutely in LOVE with this block! It just shows that I am a fickle creature!

**  It matches in perfectly with my lounge room (of which I did not choose the colours but have to live with), is not too feminine for the Mr's taste, and it has some great fabrics in many of which were sent to me by some very special people! Hands up if you sent me fabric for this block - because I bet some of you will recognise it ;)

**  So thank you to Megan, Leona, Susan, Jamie-Lee and Kelly for your contributions!.

**  They are very quick to put together and are not as hard as they look. I used this tutorial.

**  Wow yesterday's discussion on labeling was very eye opening! I had no idea that people felt so strongly about the matter. Most of my label placements of smaller products up until now have admittedly been  total laziness on my part while I've been learning to sew new things (because I don't usually think of the label until after I'm finished making something new to me as a general rule) - so at least the discussion has taught me to consider it at the beginning from now on on smaller products and not add them as an after thought...

**  I won't be making an changes with my t-shirts though for certain. The rest will be thought upon some more...

**  Thanks for your input! If you haven't had your say go have a look-see...

**  Ok Mr random org just got to choose the giveaway winner for my recent giveaway. Here is the winning number:

Susan was lucky number 5 and said:
"Well done on the t-shirts. Now everyone will be recommending you! I'll hop over to Flickr and put my name down on the new group too. Thanks for the giveaway. I need something to keep me calm some days!"

**  Seriously that is the 3rd giveaway of mine that Susan has one but I promise you everybody that I didn't rig it!! - Susan I think you need to start playing lotto!  I'm picking that I needn't bother emailing you and that you will be in touch with me as soon as you read this!

** Wow I can't believe that my swap has all filled up. I decided to cap numbers at 50 because I don't think I could manage a bigger swap than that at the moment. So if you opted in and filled out the form then keep an eye out for the partner assignment emails in the next couple of days, I'm off to work on that a bit now.

**  I finished Abbie's skirt and outfit to match Hannah's from the other day. Although I must admit that I ran out of time and it's still waiting for the arm ruffles. It looks so cute on her:

Abbie 13 1/2 months

**  I will try and work on the tutorial this week once I've got partner assignments out for the swap.

**  I discovered Etsy again this week when one of my packages I ordered aaaaages ago has not arrived and I had to go in search of replacement items.

**  Oh dear, is all I can say! I might have some more exiting mail to show you soon...

**  The 3 Flutter girls are all feeling very happy this week because the man of our house is home!
So lots of family time on the cards for us this week! YAY!

And that's all the random tidbits from me for this Tuesday.
Linking up with Fabric Tuesday.

To label or not to label??

I had an interesting discussion with one of my regular readers last week about labeling, so I thought I'd seek your advice and get a bit more feedback on the issue.

The gist of the discussion was a suggestion that perhaps my labels were a bit prominent, especially on smaller items I make, and that maybe I would be better putting them on the inside of pouches and garments and the back of mugrugs etc... Basically because when they were placed as so much of a statement on the outside it could be a bit of a turn off for customers...

Hmmm... I had to think that one over!

When I was designing my label I actually specifically designed it to sew onto the bottom right hand corners of my t-shirts, as a brand statement. My thoughts at the time were that since I was designing primarily for babies and children, a label at the back of the neck can get quite irritating and often gets cut out. So I figured that if I'm going to spend good money on labels then I want it to stick around (no pun intended ;) ) and be noticed rather than cut out and binned. Therefore that decision affected the size and look of my label very strongly.

It has only been since I designed it that I have begun sewing more smaller products and using the same labels for those. At first I must admit that I added my label to the top of pouches only because I forgot to add it before I sewed them all together and it was the only place I could add them as an after thought (confession time!). But I have since continued to add them to the outside of small products (usually still down the bottom right so that I'm being consistent but it can depend on the product).

Mug Rug 2 front

lined flat pouch

Personally I like them on the outside. Although I must admit that I have thought they would look better on the inside of the pouches in particular in the top middle (if I can ever get myself organised to remember to put them on before sewing it together!). If I think of big brand names though (not that I'm comparing myself to them) e.g. Gucci, Chanel, Nike, Rebok, Pumpkin Patch, etc.. etc... their labels always on the outside of their products on everything they create. After all that's what branding is about.
I guess I don't consider that my handmade goods should be any different to the big names (if anything I'm more proud to add my label) and therefore I try and place it somewhere in a prominent place which also works in with the design of the product. (And not that I'm biased or anything but I think my labels are quite pretty)

However - (and it's a big however in case that's not obvious) at the end of the day I do not want my labelling on the outside of products to be a turn off for potential customers and lose me sales...!! And if that was the case then I would be inclined to change my thought process and consider other places for the labels.

So, I would be very interested to hear your opinions and get a gauge for the general consenses.
Please don't be shy - I can take your honesty.

But lets keep both for and against sides constructive...

Thanks heaps!

Twirly girls....

Ever since I got an amazing deal on this beautiful Robert Kaufman print (I love it can you tell - I've been using it a lot recently!) I have been waiting for some free time to make my girls a cute outfit each for summer. Yesterday was the day! I present you my version of a little girls twirly skirt...

Hannah's new outfit

Weee heee I'm so SO pleased with how these turned out!
It's my first attempt at sewing an outfit properly for my girls. I didn't use a pattern, and instead just made it simple for myself. Although since I don't have an overlocker I did have to make french seams to make it all nice an tidy inside.

It.looks.so.cool! I made a set for Abbie last night too but haven't had a chance to take photos of her in it yet. I'm almost tempted to make one for me too - although I promise you I would not be so sad to dress the 3 of us in them at once lol...

I took photos to make a tute because these are too easy & effective and come together in less than an hour. I even finished Abbie's top within the hour too. So when I have some more time I'll write that up.

Off to "work" with Hannah in my office since Abbie's asleep. She is desperate for me to come and sew while she "works" drawing at the desk. Oh ok - twist my arm if you will Hannah :)

While she does that I better figure out what I'm doing for my October Sew Aussie blocks. Eeek it just dawned on me that it's my month in 1 week and I have to not only decide what I want to do but send fabric for the first time too. I'm kind of freaking out about what to do - I'm so indecisive about things for myself!!
I have a few ideas but will happily take any suggestions!!

Have a lovely weekend!

How To Make a Photo Mosaic - A Tutorial...

Scrappy Swap 2011 Inspiration

So you wanna make a pretty mosaic?
Good choice because they are so pretty and fun once they're done!
Let me share with you how:

Step 1: Go to Big Huge Labs: Do Fun Stuff With Your Photos
Firstly don't get distracted by all the other super fun stuff you can do with your photos - you can come back to that later ;P
Secondly select the mosaic maker:

Once you're there it should be pretty self explanatory. The only thing I ever change is the number of rows & columns I want it to have because obviously that changes depending on how many photos you want to include.

Step 2: In a separate tab (or window) open your Flickr Favourites.
Now it's just a matter of clicking in Flickr on each of the photos you want to include to bring them up to full size - and then copying the URL into the part in the mosaic maker.
I always upload my photos individually because I just find it easier to streamline - but you can do it one of the other ways if you prefer.

Go through and fill up how ever many boxes/pictures you want. Then scroll down and press the big blue create button.

Step 3: Save & Share
Yay you are done with your pretty mosaic. Hopefully all the boxes are full and it looks all pretty. If there is a white box or two then don't panic - all it means is that whoever owns the photo has opted out of letting people use it for mosaics - it's rare but it sometimes happens. So in that case you will have to choose another photo.

Warning: if you want to make any changes at this point do not push the back arrow!!! You will lose everything and have to start all over. You must click on edit mosaic and it will take you back to make edits. Remember which box was blank and that is the number photo you have to change.

If you are happy with your mosaic then it's just a matter of saving it. You can do 1 of 2 options. You can select to save it to your hard drive (if you also want a copy) or you can select to share it straight with Flickr. Choose which one you want and follow the prompts. Too easy.

Well done you! You should now have a pretty mosaic!

Step 4: Add it to the Flickr group photo pool
Easy - go to the photo in your photostream. Click on Actions. Select Add/Remove from a group.

That will bring up a little dialogue box and you just need to select the group you want. (For example Scrappy Swap 2011) - you do first need to be a member of the group though.

Done.

Hope that helps :)

"Housekeeping" & A Giveaway...

Wow what a big day I had yesterday! After a full days work yesterday I sent away 52 t-shirts branded with the logo for the upcoming C3 church women's conference event.
It feel SOOOOOO good to have them done! The day has been planned for 4 weeks and I just wanted it to hurry up and come. But I'm pleased to report that it went smoothly - Hurrah!!
Big HUGE thanks to my helpers Mel, Megan & Emma! Not to mention my wonderful friend Debbie for not only looking after my girls all day but also surprising me by cooking dinner. I have the best friends! Couldn't have done it without you wonderful girls!!

So now that's over I can concentrate a little again. With what small amounts of brain power my clouded-by-a-stoopid-virus head can muster up anyway... Namely getting a few "housekeeping" matters on my blog sorted. I just figured that since I have a couple of things on the go that I need to update you about I'd put it all in one post instead of many...

Number 1 - Blankets of Love Charity Bee update...
New Charity Bee...
Thank you to everybody who has offered to help me with this!! I really appreciate it and I'm sure the babies who benefit will too! I have decided to start a Flickr group for this, since most of the people who have decided to contribute have Flickr accounts. If you are interested in keeping track of what everybody's making can I encourage you to go and join up? I think it will be wonderful to have a record of all of the quilts that we will be donating in one central place, and I think it will also inspire us to keep going and keep (me!) accountable.
So whether you are making quilts for your local neonatal unit or sending them to me for our Perth children's hospital, feel free to add your photo - and I will add photos of them once they are quilted & bound etc..

Also if you'd like to put the blog button for this on your blog that would be just lovely! I've added the code down the side of my blog now (Thanks Juliet for teaching me how to do that!) so you should just be able to add that code as an Html gadget now on your blog.

Coming soon to a blog near you...Number 2 - Scrappy Swap 2011

Yay this is starting to grow in numbers and I can't wait to get started - it will be such a fun swap! If you haven't already, can those of you who will be participating go and join the Flickr group & fill out the registration form please? That will help me match you up with someone great. Once you've done that could you please make your partner an inspiration mosaic and add it to the group photo pool. Yay :)

Code for this button is also down the side if you'd like to add it to your blog...

Number 3 - A few more stats...
I know I harped on recently about blogging more for me and being less concerned in future about my stats and what other people think etc... etc.... That's all totally still how I feel now too of course!! But in saying that I still do regularly check my statistics. It's just too darn fascinating not to! Can't help myself. (Random fact: I studied statistics at Uni and secretly quite enjoyed it... quite random and weird hey!)
Anyway... today I noticed that my statistics went over 30,000...

That kind of excited me because it seems like an awful lot and I'm fairly sure that it's not all my Nana or my Mother-in-law :)
So... to celebrate that random fact (and to have bribed you to have read all my "housekeeping - smart ha!) I'm going to give away one of my vinyl wall art cuts.

Latest vinyl wall art in my Happy Place

I love this new sign on my office wall, so if you'd love one on your wall too then simply leave me a comment.
- No other hoops required for your jump!
(It's a little under an A4 size this one.)

On that note I'm going to go make use of my evening an do a spot of sewing. I finished my 3rd mugrug today and promptly sent it off before I got tempted to keep it ;) I can't show you the whole thing until my partner receives it, but here is a sneak peak...

Pretty colours hey. My favourite colours - hence I was tempted to keep it!
Off now to make a baby quilt for one of my Mothers group friends who just had a lovely baby boy over the weekend.

Enjoy your day/evening...

Tuesday Tidbits...

**  It's actually Monday as I start writing this. I almost never write my posts in advance, but I can't be bothered doing anything else tonight because my head is ouchy :(

**  Caused by too much grumping at my children I suspect. They were really tired today and more naughty than usual. I think we might all be getting a cold Gah!

**  In breaking news... today I (yes me!) baked!

**  There were as yummy as they looked too!

**  But it's ok you can relax - I'm not slipping into becoming a domestic goddess in the kitchen or anything...

**  After madly baking cupcakes before 8am (we had guests coming) I had had my fill of kitchen mastery and since I was then too lazy to make lunch I decided to eat 4 cupcakes instead. - They had fruit on so that was my part of my fruit intake for the day didn't ya know!

**  My contribution to dinner was chopping up baby tomatoes & cucumber and drizzling them with balsamic to accompany my Indian Takeaway butter chicken.

**  So yeah - no masterchef awards in this house any time soon!! Cooking and I are not usually friends. I would rather sew quite frankly :)
(Although really there's not a huge amount of that happening at the moment either)

**  So on that point I decided to make a 3rd mug rug to replace one of my previous ones:

Which one?!

... in the Goodie Swap. Both my partners liked the same mugrug (although I'm not telling which) so I decided to give it to the one who shouted loudest and try again for the other.

**  This is the progress so far for my 3rd mugrug...

**  I used this tute by my friend Jill. It was a good chance to try out the technique since I have agreed to make Jill 2 in return for a block for my cheeky quilt.

**  I really like it (pretty predictable since it's my favourite colours!!) and the tute was really easy to follow - thanks Jill! Everyone in the swap thought I paper pieced it, but to be honest I really wouldn't remember the first thing about how to paper piece since I've only done it once - a year ago!

**  I think this will be the final glimpse of it that my partner gets though because I have some things planned which will totally give the game away, if she hasn't guessed already...

**  In other news I have recently learned never say never!

**  A few weeks ago I recall saying to a friend of mine that you would never catch me dead buying a vintage sheet!

**  I meant no harm by saying this because said friend (and lots of my other friends!) is very into vintage sheets and I admire that. They are just generally not a love of mine.

** But I take it back. Because on a crazy whim I walked past my local thrift shop (on the way to buy milk as you do) and spotted this lovely...

**  It made me so nostalgic since I had a Holly Hobby duvet cover in the same colours and style when I was a girl, and I thought it would make such a lovely quilt back, that I just had to have it...

**  So I stand corrected!! I am now officially part of the vintage sheet club.

**  Kind of. I don't expect it will become a habit though. But again - never say never I guess!

**  I am having 3 friends over tomorrow to help me brand 50 t-shirts for an upcoming conference.

**  I have to say that I'm going to be a little relieved when this job is over. The suspense of such a large job is looming over me and I think it might free up my brain a little once it's over. I hope so anyway!

**  I am on the other hand very excited about my first self-run swap! If you missed yesterday's post and would like to be part of the Scrappy swap 2011, then come take a read and play along with us! :)

Coming soon to a blog near you...

**  Tuesday afternoon as I finish this and my head is still ouchy :( Be gone headache, be gone!!

And that is a glimpse into my Tuesday for the week.

Have I mentioned lately that I love Tuesday Tidbits? It makes such a nice change to bullet point instead of writing attempting to write cohesive paragraphs!
Couldn't do it everyday though.

Linking up today to Fabric Tuesday.

Scrappy swap 2011 - the launch...

So it's no secret that I love fabric, and it's also no secret that I love swaps! As you well know I have also recently developed a passion for making things out of "scraps" - it's so fun to play with little scraps of fabric and see what crazy combinations I can come up with to create something fun out of essentially nothing much. But if you ask me it's always slightly more exciting playing with someone else's scraps!
So... I have decided (since I have so much free time on my hands at the moment and all that ;) ) that I am going to run a swap...

I'd love to introduce you to...

Coming soon to a blog near you...

Let me tell you all about it:
This is a small scale swap - so it's a perfect swap for busy people. It's also a great swap for beginner swappers. Please note though that this will be an international swap - so you must be prepared to mail internationally!
This swap will be "blind" - so only you will know who your partner is until everyone receives their goodies at the end. Please keep your partner a secret!

Dates:
**  Sign up dates are now until 30th September
**  Partner assignments should be allocated by no later than 4th October
**  Sewing dates til end of October for swaps to be sent no earlier than 25th October & no later than 1st November.

Swap items:
**  The equivalent of a fat quarters worth of scraps; So for example if you laid out all your scraps so that they slightly overlapped then they should completely cover a fat quarter.
"Scraps" can be of all different shapes & sizes - e.g. charm squares, random small cuts, strips, fat 1/8ths etc... etc... but the smallest side must be no smaller than 2inches. So for example the total smallest you may include must be no smaller than 2 inches square.
( Please note that these scraps do not have to be "designer". You may include scraps from your local quilt shops which aren't considered "designer" - the key factors are that they must be good quality quilting/crafting fabrics and tailored to your partners tastes. (I will try my best to pair you up with a partner with similar taste).
**  A small scrap inspired goodie - for example a mugrug, pouch, needlecase, necklace, keyring/fobb etc... etc... something small which you have made from your scraps that you think your partner may like.
**  Something very small which is local to where you live. For example a postcard, fabric sample, confectionery item etc... etc... The emphasis of this item is small, and thoughtful and it should not have a monetary value of greater than say $3.

Other Criteria:
**  To be involved in this swap leave a comment on this post and as the bulk of the swap will be run via Flickr, you must also have a Flickr account. I will be setting up a form in the next couple of days which you will be required to fill out before the swap closes with info for your partner, but in the meantime you may go and join up to the Flickr group to keep watch for it.
**  To be included in this swap you must be either (or obviously you can be all of) an active blogger, already have an active Flickr account showing regular activity, or be known to me. I'm sorry if you are none of those things then you will not be able to take part. (I just need to know before assigning you a partner that you are in fact and active & hopefully reliable online user).
**  As previously mentioned you also must be willing to ship overseas. I anticipate that the shipping charge for this swap should be no greater than $10 (and hopefully well under that).
**  Partners will be randomly drawn from a hat - but I will try and avoid putting people together with totally opposite taste.
**  Once you have signed up please go and make an inspiration mosaic for your partner and add it to the Flickr pool.

I would also just like to say that large amounts of "extras" other than the swap items for this swap are discouraged. If you feel like you would like to send a few more scraps than a fat quarters worth or 2 small goodie items then that is fine, but please refrain from going overboard. This is designed as a small, low stress swap.

Any questions or if I've forgotten anything please let me know!
Otherwise lets have a fun scrappy swap!!

Go spread the word :)

PS Because I know someone will ask - please feel free to use the blog button on your blog! If anyone would like to teach me how to make it so that you can just pinch the html code then I'm all ears to learn cause sadly I'm not currently that flash! ;) xx

To Market to Market...

to buy a fat hen.
Come with me come with me,
come home again.

I don't actually know if those are the correct words to the little nursery rhyme tune that I remember vaguely from my childhood, but those are the words that come to mind when I reflect on our country market experience yesterday...
... lets just say my first market experience was an interesting one!!

My day started with bleary eyes as I started my car engine to hit the road at 6.36am exactly. Just ever so slightly early!! Then off down south to a little country town called Dwellingup, via my friends Tammi & Bron's houses to pick them up. A little nervous laughter ensured that the drive down went much faster than anticipated, (And it's not because I was speeding - honest!!) so we got down to Dwellingup in good time.

I had no idea what to expect when we arrived!
Admittedly I hadn't really done my research on the market. Bron had sourced the market and I just went along with it. I knew it was being tacked onto a mountain biking event - but I had no idea of the scale of the event and really what kind of event it would be. I had not thought much about it!!

Um.
It turned out to be a HUGE mountain biking event!
The scale of it was quite a shock to me - Riders everywhere. Well organised. A national (possibly international) event for such an otherwise small sleepy town
We were literally tacked along side the mountain bike start/finish line.

There were a LOT of people around when we arrived...
BUT they were primarily of the male, biker, muddy, sporty variety.
Not exactly our target market for our stall of pretties.... LOL...

Our first market experience...
Tammi & Bron with our stall.

So there weren't really a lot of potential punters.
But there was a lot of this:

and a lot of these...

Our first market experience...

And while there were no hens at this country market, there was some interesting wildlife...

Our first market experience...
A horse of a dog we encountered...
And was a bit of quint essential Aussie humour in our day:

Our first market experience...

I don't know if you can read that truck but it reads "the Dunny Doctor".
I thought it was a very Australian name, not to mention a pretty funny one. - And as you may be able to guess - all the people overloaded the poor parks toilet system!

So it was an interesting day!

But even though there weren't many punters I think all three of us would agree that it was well worth going. We each made sales which was quite good considering the crowd of buyers (or rather lack of), but more importantly we had a lovely laid back day together chatting in the (occasional) sunshine. To me it was worth it just to have a day with good friends (and no interruptions from my children)!!!! And definitely a learning curve for all of us for next time, which was half the intent!

On the way back we meandered slowly back and took the opportunity to check out some second hand/antique shops. We found this pretty (among other things)...

But the owner clearly knew it's worth and it was a little out of my price range!

I do have one regret for the day though -
My choice of shoe!...

Our first market experience...

New cute little pumps, lots of mud and a cold wind did not a happy tootsies make! I really wish I'd worn shoes and socks!! (Or wellies/gumboots). So if I shall ever crazily enter myself into such an event again I will remember that nugget of info for next time.

Last night I finished off the weekend by spending the night having a girls movie night with 2 of my good friends. And our kids I might add, so not a lot of movie got to be watched by the time they interrupted us every 5 minutes from their movie in the room next door. But my headache can testify to the fact that I enjoyed myself with my friends (and a glass or two of wine) to wind down from the big day. I'm really not sure if the headache is from the wine or the noise that all our children make when they get together to be honest LOL....

Home now after a big weekend and back into routine tomorrow. I think my girls and definitely I will be pleased to be back in our own bed tonight after 2 nights away!

Hope you also had a wonderful weekend!!

My Creative Space...

I want to say that my creative space hummed again last night, but it would probably be stretching the truth rather a lot! Possibly a more accurate description is that it ambled along! LOL...
Progress was slow, but at least it was progress...

Some cute hairclips...

close ups of a couple of my favourite hairclip makes
A close up of a couple of my favourites...

Some cute pouches...

cath kidson pouch

I love that Cath Kidson Duckcloth - it's so lovely!!

And here they all are together...

Last nights makings...

As you can see I also tried sewing with the laminated cotton that arrived earlier in the week. I think I will be seeing about getting a teflon foot before attempting it again, but it came out ok.
I quite like it so will put it to good use myself if it doesn't sell on Saturday - a girl can never have too many bags right?! :D

You should see my office now though. Total.and.utter.chaos!

That's it for me now for market, I've had enough and am officially giving up for this time. Too bad if I don't have enough stuff... Next time I will leave myself months to sew for one and not book into one 3 weeks put! That was a bit mad really, but I'm doing it together with 2 friends, so we won't need much each to fill up the space.
It's way more fun and easy to be creative when you're not working under pressure to a deadline!!

More creative spaces over here...

14 September 2011

Shonky Shirring...

Well... what can I say. My attempt at shirring was a big fat F for fail I'm afraid.
GAH!
I'm tempted to add in a couple of other S words to join in the alliteration to describe just how unsuccessful my attempt was, but something tells me that would just be bad form on my blog & I'd regret it later!! So "shonky" it is.... ;) LOL...

Let me show you how it went since a picture paints 1000 words...

Dismal tension...
big knots!!
Mega horrific repeated jams that nearly broke my machine :(

So as you can see... not a roaring success!
Lucky I used one of "my uglies" to practice on and not straight gung-ho onto the dress like I normally would!!

I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. I followed an online tute then in desperation even got out my A-Z of sewing book but neither set of instructions worked... I suspect it could be something to do with my machines automatic tension control (which the rest of the time is just awesome). My machine just doesn't seem to like thicker threads because it doesn't cope well with top stitching thread either.

Any suggestions would be marvellous!! (I use a brother just in case anyone else has run into these problems and overcome them).

But all was not lost. It did prompt me to finally ring my thread lady and organise to pick up some more thread, which I've been putting off for weeks. Janet is lovely and you can find her website here... I also get my rhinestones from her. These threads are half the price of Gutterman but equally as good quality and my machine likes them very much.

So I stocked up.
