Sewing 101: An Introduction to Sewing & Your Sewing Machine…
A basic introduction to sewing & the basics of using your sewing machine. During this session you will learn:
** The parts of your sewing machine
** How to set it up
** The different feet available for your machine & what they are used for
** How to thread your sewing machine
** How to wind a bobbin
** Different kinds of needles available & how to change your needle
** How to change the stitch type & length on your machine
** A brief talk on types of fabric & useful supplies to have in your sewing kit

This class will mostly be learning your machine. We will not be making a project during the class, but we will do some practice sewing.

Please note that it is highly advisable to take this class before advancing to any of the other basic sewing courses.

A simple but elegant lined zipper pouch, suitable for many uses. The finished pouch measures 9.5 inches wide x 5.5 inches tall. This class is suitable for beginners who are competent working their sewing machine.

Quilting 101 Series…
Learn to make a patchwork quilt from start to finish.
This class is suitable for a beginner, although you need to know how to use your sewing machine to a basic level. If you are a complete beginner take Sewing 101 before taking this course.

This is a 4 part series made up of the following sessions. - Please complete each session before taking next class in the program…
This series is designed to be completed within a 3 month period - the introduction & class 1 in the first month, and 1 class per month thereafter.
Because class numbers are strictly limited, it is wise to book into all sessions in the series in advance to avoid missing out.
Session 1: Introduction to Quilting
This class will introduce the topic of quilting & what we will be learning over the following sessions. During this class you will learn about all of the tools required for basic quilting, learn about different block patterns & designs & pick the pattern you would like to make. You will also learn about types of fabric, putting colours together & how to choose the fabric for your quilt.This class will give you:
** A brief introduction to quilting
** Knowledge of what tools you will require if you choose to start quilting
** Basic fabric knowledge
** Basic quilt block knowledge & you I will help you choose your pattern.
This course is essential if you are contemplating learning quilting! You will not need any sewing materials to take this course. At this course we will discuss materials required for the following sessions.
Class cost: $20

This class will teach you the basics of cutting with a rotary cutter & cutting mat. It will also introduce the basics of piecing your block together and also teach you how to piece all your blocks together to make a quilt top.
Materials required:
** It is recommended that you bring your own rotary cutter, ruler & cutting mat. There will be one available for limited use during the class, but you may not have time to cut all of your fabric required for your quilt during the class time.
** Sewing machine (contact me if you do not have access to a sewing machine as I do have 1-2 spare per class)
** Good quality white, cream or grey thread
** The fabric you have chosen for your quilt (the pattern chosen in session 1)
** Quilters pins
During this session you should have made a good start with cutting out your fabric, if not finished cutting it & also have pieced some of your blocks.
Class cost: $30
Maximum class time – 3 hours

Session 3: Assembling Your Quilt Sandwich
This class will teach you everything you need to do to assemble your quilt top and start quilting it. Before you come to this class you should have all of your blocks finished and sewn together to make your quilt top. You will learn different quilt basting techniques and baste your quilt. You will then learn different quilting techniques & make a start in quilting your quilt.
Materials required:
** Sewing machine (contact me if you do not have access to a sewing machine as I do have 1-2 spare per class)
** Good quality thread in a colour suitable to quilt with
** Enough fabric to make your quilt back – it needs to be 2 inches bigger in all directions than your quilt top. (if you are making a patchwork pieced back then please have that finished before you come to class)
** A container of safety pins to pin baste your quilt
** A piece of quilt batting that is again 2 inches bigger in all directions than your quilt top.
** A darning foot or walking foot depending on your preferred method of quilting
During this session you should be able to finish basting your quilt and have made a start on the quilting. Some practise blocks to practise the quilting will be supplied as part of the class

Session 4: Binding Your Quilt
This class will teach you how to make your binding and how to attach it to your quilt using either hand stitching technique or machine binding technique (I will teach you both methods and then you can choose which you do for your quilt).

** You will need to have a completed quilt sandwich & have finished your quilting before taking this class…
** Sewing machine (contact me if you do not have access to a sewing machine as I do have 1-2 spare per class)
** Good quality thread in the colour to match your binding
** The fabric you have chosen for your binding

** A walking foot
During this session you should have made your binding, and have made a start in attaching it. You will probably not get it attached and finished during the class (but you may).
